Just when we thought we'd seen all the birds this area has to offer, this feathery friend and his buddy showed up last weekend. Chris and his dad spotted them first. Today they came back just long enough to snap this photo through the window. We think we know what it is, do you?

I'm going with Nuttall's Woodpecker. Yes?
I am pretty sure that is a "SapSucker" (as we call them here in Maine).
Speaking fo birds, it has been a while since I checked your blog and I am wondering if you got your chickens yet???
Love,
Jodi
None of the sapsuckers have the white tail-feathers along the sides. And the Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker (which is the one that looks most like this guy) lives only in the eastern half of the U.S.
We were thinking Nuttall's Woodpecker too. It's range is limited to California. I think this one is a female since she doesn't seem to have the red occipital patch. Thanks for playing!!
No, Jodi we haven't got our chickens yet. I just started working again (the subject of another post some time...) so some projects are on hold but we are still planning on it.
